Pregnancy is a time of excitement and joy but places strong demands on a woman's body.  I treat women during pregnancy to help in the following ways:

  • To relieve physical tensions on the body, for example caused by extra weight and due to the shift in the body's centre of gravity.
  • To soothe the nervous system and helping to increase cortisol levels.
  • To boost energy by improving circulation and freeing up the lower back;

 Research has found that the less stressed a mother is during pregnancy the less prone that child will be to anxiety in their life.  To a certain extent, raised progesterone levels keep you feeling calmer, so it is beneficial to incorporate some form of relaxation, such as complimentary therapies, into your pregnancy plan.


I recommend that expectant mums wait after the first trimester and obtains their doctor's permission beforehand if there are particular risks assocaited with the pregnancy.

A Tui Na massage works on the physical and emotional body, holistically balancing life energy (known as qi) throughout the person Tui Na is the 'body work' part of the discipline of Tradidional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  It involves a variety of techniques to unlock life energy in the meridians which flow up and down the body.  The principles are similar to that used in acupuncture.

In China, Tui Na is used for conditions that in the wes would be treated by osteopaths, Chiropractors, physio's or drugs.


Tui na can treat acute or chronic pain, particularly caused by musculosketal conditions and injuries.  It aides the body's natural ability to detoxify itself because it stimulates the lymphatic system and strengthens immunity and well-being.  Tui na can be tremendous benefit to athletes  by increasing flexibility and decreasing muscle tension.  It helps with lactic acid dispersal (a by-product of exercise) and as a result can improve training and performance.  It is not necessary to undress for treatment sessions as no oils are applied, however you will be asked to wear comfortable loose clothing.
